What to Expect
Where does the massage take place?
Your massage will take place is a warm, quiet massage room that is especially prepared for your comfort. Soft music may be playing to help you relax and you will lie on a soft massage table.
Who will perform the massage session?
Your session will be performed by a professional who has been properly trained, often in several varieties of techniques. The state of Kentucky requires that all massage therapists be licensed so you know they have been properly trained.
Must I be completely undressed?
Most massage and bodywork techniques are traditionally performed while the client is undressed, but you can decide what amount of clothing you want to wear during your session. You will always be properly draped at all times.
Will the therapist be in the room when I disrobe?
No. The therapist will come into the therapy room with you to discuss your intake form, but then will leave while you get undressed and comfortably on the massage table.
Will I be covered during the session?
Yes, you will be draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable on the table. Only the area being worked on will be exposed.
What parts of my body will be massage?
You and the therapist will discuss what part of the body requires therapy. A typical full-body massage includes work on the head, neck, shoulders, arms, back, legs and feet.
What should I do during a massage session?
Get comfortable and relax! The therapist will direct you as to what you need to do during the session (such as lift an arm). Some of my clients fall asleep and some stay very alert, but most often, they are somewhere in between these two states. Most people just close their eyes and completely relax. During your session, feel free to ask the therapist about massage and bodywork in general or about the particular technique you are receiving at the time. When the session is over, your therapist will leave the room and allow you to get dressed.
